Born in Minneapolis in August 1955, he is the 7th of 9 children. He watched his father build furniture and paint wildlife on canvas since before he can remember. At 17 he set out traveling for 5 years and studying too many trades. For three of those years, he was learning historic renovation in Hawaii under “The Ace of All Trades”. Next stop was log building scholl in northern Minnesota.
With no formal art training, he was always chipping away at some piece of wood and asking questions. In the early 80’s, he met up with a group of serious traditional decoy makers. The fireside talks of technique, design, and hunting were amazing. They still are. All his birds are hand carved and hand painted with the old masters in mind and ready for serious hunting.
